GT won 5 of 6 against SRH all-time — but SRH's 2026 numbers make them completely different beast

On paper, Gujarat Titans hold a commanding 5-1 lead over Sunrisers Hyderabad in all-time IPL head-to-head meetings — a record that would make them firm favourites heading into any encounter between these two sides.

On Tuesday night (May 12), the Gujarat Titans (GT) are ready to host the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 56th game of the IPL 2026. Titans have dominated results against SRH, leading by 5-1. However, their upcoming IPL 2026 clash is going to be different.

It is going to be a tight match at Ahmedabad, as both teams are trying to earn their Qualifier 1 spot by finishing in the top two. Both teams have 14 points after 11 games with seven wins and four losses, as SRH are in the second position and GT are in the third position in the IPL 2026 points table.

The IPL 2022 champions Gujarat Titans are carrying a great form with four successive wins at the moment. Meanwhile, the IPL 2016 winners SRH have won six of their last seven matches. So, the IPL fans are expecting a tight battle on Tuesday night.

GT dominated this fixture historically — But that was very different SRH side

Gujarat Titans have a dominant record against the SunRisers Hyderabad, as Titans have claimed five wins out of their six on-field meetings. SRH only won their first-ever meeting, which was in the IPL 2022, where SRH won by eight wickets at DY Patil Stadium after successfully chasing the 163-run target in 19.1 overs (168/2). GT have won all their last five meetings, mostly comfortably.

However, it is the first time that GT will face SRH in the IPL 2026. Despite having a strong record, it is a different season, as SRH are very different now. While they are popular for defending the total, much opposite the tournament trend, no total is also safe from them to chase, as the franchise recently chased the back-to-back 229 and 244 runs targets against Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians, respectively.

2026 SRH by numbers — Why every power stat points to Sunrisers this season

SRH have already equalled the record for most 200+ totals in an IPL season by a team, as they have already recorded eight times, and they still have at least three games before the playoffs. While the IPL 2026 has experienced a record number of 200+ totals, SRH are among the reasons. SRH top-order batters are dominating the powerplay and the first half of the innings, which are automatically guiding their total to huge marks.

The top four SRH batters are carrying just over 40 average this season, as the SRH are on top in the list of most runs scored by the top four batters for a team in the IPL 2026. Despite the continuous struggle in the middle order, as the team has experienced some poor late batting collapses, the franchise still has already set a record number of 200+ totals. Batting is their main strength, while the SRH bowling department is finding consistency. Since the skipper Pat Cummins has returned to the game, the SRH bowling is trying to find its confidence back.

History vs Form — Which one actually wins you an IPL match in 2026?

While history may bring some confidence, form is the clear winner, and so for the IPL 2026. Both GT and SRH are in-form, while GT have strong record against SRH, having won all their last five meetings. However, the top four SRH batters are in dangerous form, as they have set up a proud batting team rather than depending on one or two batters.

There are three SRH names out of the top 10 leading run-scorers in the IPL 2026, including the Orange Cap holder Heinrich Klaasen. Although the middle-order batting has faced multiple collapses this season, Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy are the top two middle-order batters of the season, which brings more confidence to the team. Their dangerous batting, which is not limited to a few names, has made the team different than their previous season. It means that the hosts GT can face a strong and different heat on Tuesday night, especially if SRH maintain their character.
