SRH score 200-plus eight times in IPL 2026 — Is their aggressive batting style liability?
Sunrisers Hyderabad have been the most explosive batting side in IPL 2026, posting 200-plus scores eight times and terrifying every opposition with their power-hitting from ball one. But a dangerous pattern has emerged.

SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) have shown their dominance with the bat in the IPL 2026, as they have already produced eight 200+ totals in the ongoing IPL season. However, the IPL 2016 champions have still disappointed in the batting line-up, as it has consistently experienced late batting collapses.
SRH are currently among the in-form teams, as they have won six out of their last seven fixtures. Although they had a struggling start this season, with only one win in their first four games, SRH are now strongly standing in the second position in the IPL 2026 points table with 14 points in 11 games (seven wins and four losses).
Despite SRH have proven themselves among the strong sides this IPL season, mainly thanks to their dominant batting performances, their late batting collapse is a big concern. SRH have already equalled the IPL season record for the most 200+ totals for a team in an IPL season by recording it eight times in the ongoing season. However, their late batting collapse is still a big concern for them.

The pattern is clear — SRH keep posting 200-plus scores but still finding ways to collapse
SRH top-order and top middle-order batters have played major roles in their IPL 2026 successes. While they are regularly posting 200+ totals, managing it eight out of 11 innings this season, the top four batters have scored more than 71 percent of the team's runs.

Talking about the most runs scored by the top four batters of a team in the IPL 2026, SRH are leading handsomely (1661 runs), while the batters' average is just above 40. While the top-order batters have also maintained the strong strike-rate of 178+, the top four partnership average is also the highest this season, with 42+.
IPL 2026: Most runs scored by top 4 batters for a team
| Team | Runs Scored | Average | Strike Rate |
| SunRisers Hyderabad | 1661 | 40.51 | 178.79 |
| Punjab Kings | 1531 | 45.02 | 177.40 |
| Gujarat Titans | 1495 | 38.33 | 155.40 |
However, the main headache is in the late middle-order batting. Unlike their top four batters, the no.5 and lower batters have added only 560 runs, standing in the sixth position. Although the strike rate in this line-up (no.5 to lower) is still strong with over 151, the second-highest among the teams this season, the batting average is the lowest, with just fractionally above 18.
IPL 2026: Least average by last 6 batters (no.5 or lower) for a team
| Team | Average | Runs Scored | Strike Rate |
| SunRisers Hyderabad | 18.06 | 560 | 151.76 |
| Lucknow Super Giants | 18.56 | 687 | 126.51 |
| Chennai Super Kings | 20.11 | 543 | 132.76 |

Fragile middle order or fearless cricket? The real reason behind SRH's collapse problem in IPL 2026
In the last three IPL seasons, SRH have shown a high-quality of aggressive batting, as the franchise is busy with fearless cricket. However, the fragile middle-order batting has set a concern. As the IPL 2026 has experienced the nature of no total being safe to defend, and the 220+ totals are always achievable, the fragile middle-order is always a concern, especially in the business end of the tournament.
In IPL 19, SRH have added 562 runs (in 35 partnerships) for the last six-wicket partnerships, the fifth most runs scored by a franchise for the last six-wicket partnerships this season. With an 18.73 partnership average, SRH hold the second-lowest partnership average for the last six wickets this season, just above the Gujarat Titans' 17.41.
PL 2026: Least average by last 6 partnerships (no.5 or lower) for a team
| Team | Average | Total Partnership Runs |
| Gujarat Titans | 17.41 | 296 |
| SunRisers Hyderabad | 18.73 | 562 |
| Lucknow Super Giants | 20.30 | 731 |
Talking about the last six-wicket partnerships for SRH in this IPL season, there is one century partnership (116 between Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy for the fifth wicket vs LSG) and another 50+ partnership (82 for the fifth wicket between Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy vs KKR), along with four more partnerships with 30 or more runs. It means that less than 18 percent of their last six-wicket partnerships have managed to reach 30 runs in the ongoing IPL season. The crisis is more serious, with only two double-digit partnerships (36* and 13*) for the last six wickets in the last three games, which experienced a total of nine such partnerships.
Can a team that bats this aggressively actually win an IPL title — or does the same mindset make them fragile?
The IPL 2026 has experienced a record number of 200+ successful total chases, as the tournament has seen 14 successful 200+ total chases, and the tournament still has 18 matches left. Previously, the most successful 200+ total chases record in an IPL season was only nine (IPL 2025), and we have already experienced 220 or more successful total chases eight times in the ongoing 19th edition of the tournament.
SRH set up the fearless batting style in the IPL 2024 edition, where they claimed some unforgettable wins. However, the entire season wasn't smooth for them, as they later had inconsistent results and suffered defeats against the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Playoffs (Qualifier 1 and Final) without putting up any significant challenges.
If the SRH middle-order doesn't improve now, we can experience a similar story in the ongoing IPL edition, especially if the top-order batters have some bad days in the key stage of the tournament. Fearless batting is a strong message, but it should be controlled with proper calculations.
