IPL 2026: 4 teams that could reach the Playoffs
The Indian Premier League 2026 will start on March 28. Here are four teams that look strong enough to secure a spot in the playoffs.

Indian Premier League 2026 is set to begin on March 28. On March 11, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the official start date of the IPL's 19th season along with the schedule for the first phase of the tournament. The full schedule has not been released yet, as elections are scheduled to be held in several states. Once the election dates are announced, the board will also release the schedule for the second phase of matches.
In this IPL season as well, a total of 10 teams will participate in the tournament, and exciting matches will be seen among them to win the title. However, the effort of all teams will first be to overcome the challenge of the league stage and secure a place in the playoffs. The teams that remain in the top 4 of the points table in the league stage get a chance to advance, while the other six teams have to face disappointment.

Ahead of the IPL 2026, let's take a look at four teams that appear to be strong contenders to make the playoffs.
1. Royal Challengers Bengaluru

The first name on this list is defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The franchise had to wait 17 seasons to win its maiden IPL title despite being led by several big names, including Virat Kohli. However, in IPL 2025, Rajat Patidar created history by guiding the team to its first trophy. The squad once again looks strong, with key players like Virat Kohli, Phil Salt, Devdutt Padikkal, Krunal Pandya, Tim David, Romario Shepherd, Josh Hazlewood, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Meanwhile, the addition of all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer has further strengthened the squad. The bowling attack has also received a boost with the inclusion of Jacob Duffy, who was the leading wicket-taker in international cricket last year. With a balanced squad and several match-winners, RCB appear to be strong contenders for a playoff spot.
2. Mumbai Indians

Five-time champions Mumbai Indians seem to be strong contenders for a playoff spot in IPL 2026. The biggest reason behind this is the good form of several key players. MI's biggest strength is its experienced Indian players. This includes captain Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Tilak Varma. Except for Rohit, the other four were recently seen in the T20 World Cup 2026. They also played an important role in India's title win.
Apart from these, the Mumbai Indians have two excellent spin all-rounders, Mitchell Santner and Will Jacks. The team, owned by Nita Ambani, had included three players through trading before the mini-auction. This includes Shardul Thakur, Sherfane Rutherford, and Mayank Markande. Rutherford's recent form is very good, and he could become the X-factor for the team.
In addition, Quinton de Kock's return has helped strengthen the batting. Meanwhile, along with Bumrah, the pace bowling department also has skilled bowlers like Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult. Because of all these factors, the Mumbai Indians team appears to be quite balanced.
3. Punjab Kings

Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, Punjab Kings performed brilliantly in the 18th season of the IPL, but in the end, they had to be content with being the runners-up. Punjab's team was defeated by Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final. Despite missing out on the title, the team did not make many changes to their squad and only released two major players, Glenn Maxwell and Josh Inglis. Maxwell's form was poor, and Inglis's full-season availability was uncertain.
For this reason, the Punjab Kings released both of them. Meanwhile, three other players were also shown the exit. In the mini-auction, PBKS bought two international players from Australia, Ben Dwarshuis and Cooper Connolly. They also added two uncapped players to their squad. In this way, Punjab Kings have strengthened their squad and, under Shreyas' captaincy, once again appear to be strong contenders for the playoffs.
The most important factor for the Punjab Kings will be the performance of their young batters, as they performed exceptionally well last season. The rest of the bowling unit features the experienced trio of Arshdeep Singh, Lockie Ferguson, and Yuzvendra Chahal. Meanwhile, pace all-rounders Marco Jansen and Marcus Stoinis will provide balance to the playing XI.
4. Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals appear to be a strong contender to secure the fourth spot in the IPL 2026 playoffs. Delhi has a tremendous squad, led by all-rounder Axar Patel. Many players who will be seen in the T20 World Cup 2026 are a part of DC, which could prove beneficial for them.
In batting, there are skilled players like KL Rahul, Ben Duckett, Pathum Nissanka, Prithvi Shaw, David Miller, Nitish Rana, and Tristan Stubbs. Meanwhile, as all-rounders, captain Axar and Vipraj Nigam will also be part of the team. Uncapped Ashutosh Sharma will once again have the responsibility of playing the finisher's role.
Delhi Capitals already had pace bowlers like Mitchell Starc, T Natarajan, and Mukesh Kumar. Now, Auqib Nabi has also joined them, who has performed exceptionally well in domestic cricket. Meanwhile, as the main spinner, the responsibility will lie with Kuldeep Yadav, who can entrap any batting unit on his own.
