The Punjab Kings have consistently underperformed in the Indian Premier League. Every year, they give their all, like the other teams, and assemble a squad. However, they need to catch up in terms of on-field execution.

The Punjab Kings have started well in most seasons but lost momentum as the competition progressed. With another chance to create a roster and emerge as a better championship contender, PBKS will try to keep some of its players who performed very well in the IPL 2024. Here are three players that the Punjab Kings might aim to stay ahead of the 2025 IPL mega auction.

Arshdeep Singh

Since joining the franchise, Arshdeep Singh's reputation as a death-over specialist has grown. The left-arm Indian bowler has established himself as a vital member of the PBKS squad. He has had game-changing performances for them and is currently an essential squad member.

Given the value of Indian pacers and left-handers in the competition, Arshdeep Singh will almost certainly be retained by the Punjab Kings. Despite receiving a lot of flak for giving away many runs, he demonstrated his massive recovery in India's triumphant 2024 T20 World Cup by being the joint-highest wicket-taker, scalping 17 wickets in eight matches.

Harshal Patel

Despite PBKS' terrible record, Harshal Patel won the 'Purple Cap' for the IPL 2024 season. The talismanic PBKS bowler collected 24 wickets in 14 matches at an average of under 20. His economy for the season was 9.73. The 2024 leading wicket-taker trophy, purchased by PBKS for Rs 11.75 crore, was Harshal's second purple cap, winning the first in the 2021 season with an incredible 32 scalps in 15 innings.

With his vital ability to bowl at a medium pace in the required hours, Patel can be a long-term possibility for the squad if the bowler changes his strategy to run economically in future tournaments.

Shashank Singh

Shashank Singh was a surprise yet crucial addition to the Punjab Kings' IPL 2024 auction roster. The squad accidentally bid on him, identifying him with another athlete with the same name, but this mistake proved fortuitous. The Punjab Kings then claimed they intended to bid for him, but supporters found that difficult to believe.

Shashank became one of the team's best performers in the IPL 2024, scoring 354 runs with an excellent average of 44.25. His outstanding performance was critical to the Punjab Kings' campaign, demonstrating that unexpected twists may lead to extraordinary success.
