The names of both finalist teams of the T20 World Cup 2026 have been decided. This time, the tournament's final match will be played between New Zealand and India. By defeating South Africa in the first semi-final match, New Zealand secured its place in the title match. Meanwhile, in the second semi-final, India made it to the final by defeating England. However, India had to struggle to defeat England, because despite setting a target of 254, Suryakumar Yadav's team won by just 7 runs.

In the match played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India batted first after losing the toss and scored 253/7 in 20 overs. Sanju Samson led the innings with an 89-run knock. With such a big target set, England appeared likely to fall short. However, Jacob Bethel’s remarkable 105 runs off 48 balls kept England in contention. The momentum shifted when Bethel was run out in the final over. On the last three balls, Jofra Archer hit consecutive sixes, but England still could not secure victory.

In this way, India secured a place in the T20 World Cup 2026 final with a victory, also becoming the third team to play consecutive finals in the history of this tournament. Let's take a look at which three teams have played consecutive finals.

1. Pakistan (2007, 2009)

Although Pakistan's journey in the T20 World Cup 2026 did not progress beyond the Super-8, it is the first team to have played consecutive finals in the history of this tournament. Pakistan played in the finals of the 2007 and 2009 editions of the T20 World Cup. In the first final, Pakistan faced a 5-run defeat against India. However, when Pakistan got the chance for the second time, it made history and succeeded in becoming champion by defeating Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in the title match.

2. Sri Lanka (2012, 2014)

Like Pakistan, Sri Lanka has also played consecutive T20 World Cup finals. The Sri Lankan team played its first T20 World Cup final in 2012, when it itself hosted the tournament. However, in the final match, Sri Lanka faced defeat against the West Indies by 36 runs. After that, in the T20 World Cup 2014 held in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka also made it to the final and won the title by defeating India.

3. India (2024 and 2026)

As soon as it secured a place in the final match of the T20 World Cup 2026, India became the third team in the history of the tournament to play consecutive finals after Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Team India secured a place in the final by defeating England in the second semi-final and will now face New Zealand on March 8. Earlier, in 2024 as well, India played the final and won the trophy by defeating South Africa by 7 runs.
