Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has made positive statements about Indian opener Abhishek Sharma during theICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. Earlier, Amir had referred to the Indian batter as a “slogger,” and now, after the poor performance of the batter in the tournament, his statement has again come into the limelight. The former Pakistan pacer has clarified that his statement was not made to insult the batter but to explain the difficulties faced by the players in the tournament.

Amir further clarified that there is a huge difference between a normal series and an ICC tournament. In a normal series, the team may not analyze the players of the other team properly and may try to give them a chance to play and assess them. However, in the ICC tournaments, every team analyzes the players properly and makes strategies to stop them from scoring runs.

Talking about Abhishek Sharma, after Abhishek Sharma’s continued failures in the T20 World Cup, including his poor performance in yesterday’s match, former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir criticized the Indian opener’s batting. Amir said Abhishek looks like a one-dimensional player, and such batters often struggle in modern T20 cricket, especially in ICC tournaments where teams study every weakness. He pointed out that Abhishek has problems against off-spin and short-pitched deliveries from fast bowlers. Due to this, the bowlers are targeting those areas, making it hard for the player to score runs. In the tournament so far, Abhishek has scored just 89 runs in seven matches at an average of 12.71, including three ducks.

Abhishek Sharma struggles in the T20 World Cup

Abhishek Sharma entered the T20 World Cup after performing well in the recent series against New Zealand. In the last series, he averaged 45.50 in five matches. However, the player’s form has been poor in the T20 World Cup. In seven matches, he has scored 89 runs at an average of 12.71. He also has three ducks in the tournament. Moreover, he has only made three scores above ten runs.

Amir also praised Sanju Samson, saying that the Indian player is doing well. According to Amir, the player can hit shots in every area of the ground. He said that in the modern format of the game, the player must have the skills to hit shots against every type of ball.
