Australia reveals men’s nationally contracted players list for 2026/27, several changes made
Cricket Australia have made plenty of changes to name their new list of centrally contracted players for men's in the 2026/27 season before a packed schedule for the next 12 months.

Post a successful home season by winning the Ashes 2025/26 against Ben Stokes’ well-renowned Bazball approach, Cricket Australia has revealed its list of nationally contracted players. However, post that victory, they failed to make it to the Super 8 stage of the recently concluded Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
A few of the Australian players have been part of the injuries for a long time, which has caused the team to lose valuable points in terms of finding their bench strength. Meanwhile, the selectors have noted that part and made several changes in the new list of players, following the retirement of a few more veterans.
Australia exclude Jhye Richardson from nationally contracted players
The new left-handed opening batter in the red-ball format for Australia, Jake Weatherald, appears to continue in the position, having been handed a full central contract as their fast bowler, Jhye Richardson, has been surprisingly cut from the list for the 12-month period, where the pace department will be challenged by a packed schedule.
On the other hand, Michael Neser has been rewarded with a deal for his role in the Ashes series, and Brendan Doggett is also included, while off-spinner, Todd Murphy, returns to the list ahead of the five-Test tour to India next year. Murphy has played seven Tests so far and was part of the side in the Ashes 2025/26 when Nathan Lyon was injured.

The next contracted period includes their Test series at home against Bangladesh, followed by their trip to South Africa before returning home to face New Zealand. They will next travel to India for the BGT 2027, followed by the 150th Test anniversary Test against England and a potential WTC 2025/27 final before the Ashes 2027.
The selectors have handed out 21 of the 24 available contracts, with five players being axed from the last list. They are retired Usman Khawaja, Sam Konstas, Lance Morris, Glenn Maxwell, and Matthew Short.
CA national selector speaks on national contract 2026/27
The national selector of the side, George Bailey, has reflected on the long schedule of the national men’s side in the longest format over the next 12 months.
“The contract list strives to balance reward for performances over time with a lens to the upcoming schedule. The next 12 months encompass a busy Test schedule across a range of conditions and challenges - South Africa, India, and England, as well as the Top End and home Tests across the summer.” Bailey said.
“This is reflected in the contract list through a predominance of Test and multi-format players for this cycle. Given the upcoming schedule of series, we know we will continue to need and utilize players outside of those contracted.” The former captain revealed.
“This year, perhaps more than ever, it is essential we continue working closely with and collaborating with states to ensure players are developing and ready for International cricket when they get opportunities.” The national selector added.
