Austrian cricketer set T20I history, broke Mohammad Rizwan's record

Karanbir Singh records most T20I runs in a calendar year

Austrian cricketer Karanbir Singh smashed the T20I world record with his brilliant batting performances in 2025, as the right-handed batter surpassed Pakistan star Mohammad Rizwan to achieve this all-time record. 

Karanbir Singh records most T20I runs in a calendar year

Karanbir Singh has scored 1488 T20I runs in 2025, which is a new record for most T20I runs in a calendar year. He broke the record of 1326 T20I runs in 2021 by Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Rizwan. Suryakumar Yadav, the present Indian T20I captain, has now moved to third place in the list of most T20I runs in a calendar year with 1164 T20I runs in 2022. Another Austrian cricketer Bilal Zalmai has also scored 1008 T20I runs in this calendar year. 

  • Karanbir Singh (Austria) - 1488 T20I runs in 2025
  • Mohammad Rizwan (Pakistan) - 1326 T20I runs in 2021
  • Suryakumar Yadav (India) - 1164 T20I runs in 2022
  • Bilal Zalmai (Austria) - 1008 T20I runs in 2025

Karanbir has played 32 T20I innings to score 1488 T20I runs in 2025 with an average of 51.31 and a strike rate of 174.85. He has recorded two centuries and 13 half-centuries in this calendar year. His 15 50+ T20I scores in a calendar year are another T20I calendar year record, while he broke 13 T20I 50+ scores for Mohammad Rizwan in 2021. Apart from two centuries, he also scored three nervous 90s this calendar year.

Karanbir Singh also records most T20I boundaries in a calendar year

On the other hand, Karanbir is the only player to smash 100 or more T20I sixes in a calendar year, as he has smashed 122 T20I sixes and 127 T20I fours in the current year. The previous record for most T20I sixes in a calendar year was 68 by Indian star Suryakumar Yadav in 2022. Meanwhile, Karanbir is also holding the record for most T20I fours in a calendar year by breaking the previous record of 119 fours by Pakistan star Mohammad Rizwan in 2021.
