Watch: Axar Patel reveals his favourite catch from IND vs ENG ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 Semi-Final
Here is Axar’s explanation about why he preferred the first catch, which dismissed Brook, over the catch of Will Jacks that is being talked about by fans around the world.

India’s seven-run win over England in the T20 World Cup semifinal had many heroes. Sanju Samson scored a brilliant 89 off 42 balls, while Jasprit Bumrah bowled well and kept an economy rate of 8.25 in a match where 499 runs were scored. However, vice-captain Axar Patel also made a big impact with two excellent catches.
After the match, the star all-rounder said that his favourite catch was the one he took to dismiss England captain Harry Brook. The catch became one of the best moments of the game and helped India stay in control.
Axar also played an important role in a brilliant relay catch that removed Will Jacks during a crucial stage of the chase. His effort on the field helped India reach their second straight T20 World Cup final and keep their title defence hopes alive.

“I think my favourite one would be that of the captain, Harry Brook. I was running in the opposite direction, and my vision was also the other way,” Axar Patel said while speaking to ICC.
“Luckily, I stopped for a moment to judge which way to go. That is the tough part when you are running in the opposite direction. In the Will Jacks catch, I was running sideways, but catching one while running opposite is even more enjoyable,” he added.
Notably, Axar is known as one of India’s safest fielders and is famous for taking tough catches under pressure. In the 2024 T20 World Cup Super 8s match against Australia, he showed his skill again by taking an acrobatic catch to remove captain Mitchell Marsh.
Talking about the semifinal, India pacer Jasprit Bumrah bowled a slow cutter to dismiss Brook in the power play, and Axar took a brilliant backwards-running catch from the cover region. Later, with Will Jacks (35 off 20) and Jacob Bethell attacking in the middle overs, Axar made a superb catch in the deep to remove Jacks and end their 77-run partnership off 39 balls.
With Sam Curran joining Bethell, India needed 45 runs off the final three overs. Suryakumar Yadav brought Bumrah back for one last spell, and he gave away only six runs in the over, helping India maintain control.
