The Delhi Capitals were exceptional during their successful chase of 226 runs by seven wickets with five balls to spare during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against the Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, thanks to a strong opening partnership between KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka.

Riyan Parag’s clinical knock of 90 runs off 50 balls didn’t go well as the home side struggled to put the ball in the right area. Donovan Ferreira also contributed a fiery knock, while their young opener, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, couldn’t continue the same heroics.

The DC pace, Kyle Jamieson, has been handed one demerit point and warned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for his aggressive celebrating against the 15-year-old left-handed opening batter. The teenager suffered a rare failure for four runs in two balls against the Kiwi pacer. 

Sooryavanshi has already earned a reputation for hitting some of the best bowlers of world cricket for a first-ball or second-ball six before being dismissed in the second over against the Capitals. The Bihar-born was trying to smash a full toss when an under-edge cleaned up his stumps.

Celebrating the wicket, Jamieson gave a fiery send-off to the youngster and was criticized by the experts and fans. The 31-year-old overseas player tried to sledge the young Indian batter, and many took it as a poor sight.

The BCCI has decided to punish the lanky bowler for being found guilty of beaching Article 2.5 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, and as a result, he was handed one demerit point besides being warned of such instance by the Indian cricket board.

Delhi Capitals earn their biggest chase in IPL history

Rajasthan Royals posted a huge score of 225 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Apart from captain Parag’s fiery knock of 90 runs off 50 balls with the help of eight boundaries and five sixes, Ferreira also clubbed an unbeaten knock of 47 runs off 14 balls, shouldering on two fours and six sixes at a strike rate of 335.71.

Nissanka gave the Delhi Capitals the platform with 62 runs in 33 balls with six boundaries and three sixes, while Rahul backed it up with six boundaries and five sixes for 75 runs off 40 balls to earn the seven-wicket victory.
