Watch: Ben Stokes retires from international cricket with emotional message to team-mates
The veteran all-rounder and captain of the England Test side, Ben Stokes, retires from international cricket with an emotional message to his team-mates.

Just half an hour before the end of the second session of the fourth day during the third Test of the three-match series against New Zealand at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, the announcement shocked the world of cricket and the fans: the iconic all-rounder and England captain, Ben Stokes, would retire from international cricket with an emotional message.
The news came after Stokes missed the second Test of the series at the Kennington Oval in South London after an incident at a London nightclub after the first red-ball clash at Lord’s. He was out of the eleven along with Gus Atkinson.

“There’s something that I know is going to happen over the next two days, which is that this is my last two days as your captain and my last two days representing England,” Stokes said in an emotional speech.
“Reasons can wait why, but I’ve had many trips to the well before for this team, for you blokes, for people beforehand, and I’ve got one more trip to do. And the only thing that I ask, please, is can everyone please do the same.” He addressed.
The development was expected to come at some point, but not in the middle of a Test match, especially when the veteran was in the middle of a marathon 10-over spell. Just after the news broke out, Stokes got the wicket as the fans and his team-mates celebrated together.
“We’ve got a lot of hard work still to do, and the only thing that I want is to be able to walk off that field, regardless of the result, knowing that I’ve had this group of men and one lady give everything for the last two days,” The veteran added.
