The Gujarat Titans (GT) needed a powerful start inside the first six overs of the innings to complete the 156-run chase against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. That would have put enormous pressure on the visitors.

Shubman Gill, the GT captain, gave them the platform with a 24-run over against Josh Hazlewood, which came as a surprise to the Bengaluru captain, Rajat Patidar. The right-handed batter played some elegant shots around the park.

Jos Buttler, coming at one down for the Titans, was given an early life by Jitesh Sharma, who dropped the catch of the England star behind the stumps. On the very next delivery, the right-handed batter put salt in the wound as he scooped Hazlewood for a huge six into the fine-leg stands.

Watch the video here:

The veteran continued the aggressive batting against the lanky pacer by getting forward and lofting him over the mid-off region for a boundary before backing it up with another six when he got forward and used the power to hammer it through the line for a clean strike.

Even against Suyash Sharma, the Somerset batter clubbed two successive sixes and looked in fabulous touch with the bat. But he was undone for 39 runs by an excellent delivery from Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

It was a full delivery on the leg stump as Buttler was beaten for the pace after shuffling across. He couldn’t get the bat down as the pad was in the way, getting into a tangle before the ball knocked out the leg stump to send the batter back into the hut.

Gujarat completes 156-run chase to earn vital victory

Post Virat Kohli’s dismissal, RCB missed the glue in their batting line-up as they continued to lose wickets regularly. Despite being 34/0 in 2.3 overs, they found themselves 96/6 in 10.3 overs. Things didn’t get better from thereon as they got bundled out for 155 runs.

GT completed the chase in 15.5 overs by four wickets. Rahul Tewatia remained unbeaten on 27 runs in 17 balls at a strike rate of nearly 160 with the help of four boundaries. Bhuvi was decent for his figures of 3/28 in four overs.

Brief Scores: GT 158/6 (S Gill 43, Bhuvneshwar Kumar 3/28) beat RCB 155 (D Padikkal 40, Arshad Khan 3/22) by four wickets.
