Virat Kohli pulls Shubman Gill aside

After losing the first two matches of the 3-match ODI series, India is playing the third and last match to save the team from a whitewash. But as usual, India lost the toss and was sent to field first.

While batting first, Australia prepared very well to put up a big challenge ahead of the visitors.  Opening pair Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh started off really well and built a 61-run opening partnership. Captain Shubman Gill has tried various bowling changes and hasn’t done much.

In this situation, experience always comes in handy, and Shubman has the leverage to take suggestions from two most senior and experienced stalwarts, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, by his side. Both of them were seen engaged on the field with bowlers, and Shubman as well. Despite leaking so many runs, still able to stop the hosts for 236 runs.

Shubman Gill Impresses With Clever Decisions in 3rd ODI:

Since the time Shubman Gill became captain of India, his fortune with the toss and his batting have not been up to the mark. Though with the bat, he is phenomenal in Test but in white ball cricket, he hasn’t impressed yet.

He failed to score a half-century. In the first two ODI matches, he didn’t bat well, but in Sydney, he is hoping to do well. Shubman Gill impressed with his tactical decision on the field by going ahead in bowling with Prasidh Krishna and Kuldeep Yadav instead of Arshdeep Singh and Nitish Kumar Reddy.

Australia started really well, but couldn’t convert it into a big one. Thanks to Kuldeep, Washington Sundar, and Axar Patel for their calculative and economical bowling, and Gill’s tactical bowling changes to shift the momentum to India’s side.

Virat Kohli’s Guidance Helps Shubman in Decision-making:

Whenever Virat Kohli plays any matches, he is always seen engaged with every player. In this match as well, he was seen engaging with bowlers and other players. In between the game, he was seen calling Shubman Gill over for a discussion regarding fielding and bowling. KL Rahul also joined the conversation. After the conversation Shubman Gill instantly went with the plan and got the desired result.

While watching this wholesome moment, one of the commentators said, “ Virat Kohli seen here talking to Shubman Gill, KL Rahul. I can see the involvement since the last few overs. He has the experience. Captain ka darja shayad nahi ho par experience hai. They may not be captains, but they have the experience. Be it Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli or KL Rahul. They can share all their knowledge, although eventually it's up to Gill whether he wants to implement it.”
