The left-handed number three batter for India, Devdutt Padikkal, showed his emotions after being controversially dismissed on 199 during the first unofficial Test between New Zealand A and India A at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln. He has cemented his position for the opening game of the series at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.
India had a terrible time in the first innings of batting when they were bundled out for just 113 runs in 39.3 overs, with only Yash Rathod being able to cross the 40-run mark individually. But they made a superb comeback in the second innings’ batting department.
How Devdutt Padikkal was dismissed one run short of a double century
On the fifth delivery of the 89th over, Padikkal was given out caught behind down the leg side. But he looked extremely surprised at the decision and gestured to the umpire about how far the ball was from the bat. It seemed to have come off the pad, but he had to push him out of the field.

Zak Gibson went for a harmless length delivery down the leg side, and the southpaw tried to clip it but missed as the ball brushed his pads and nestled into the gloves of the wicket-keeper. There was some sound when the ball passed the bat.
The appeal wasn’t convincing, but the umpire raised his finger, leaving Padikkal in utter disbelief. But the Blackcaps did not doubt it when taking the wicket. The Karnataka batter was dismissed for 199 runs off 248 balls, thanks to his 24 boundaries and three sixes.
