The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 15-member squad for the Women's T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to be held in the UAE from October 3. Big-hitting all-rounder Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the Indian side, with star batter Smriti Mandhana serving as her deputy.

Key players in the squad

The Indian team features top-order batter Yastika Bhatia and spin all-rounder Shreyanka Patil, both included subject to fitness. Known for her aggressive batting, Kaur will be at the forefront of India’s campaign to clinch their first-ever T20 World Cup title. Mandhana, who has been a consistent performer for India, will provide strong support in the leadership group.

Tournament shifts to UAE

Originally set to be held in Bangladesh, the T20 World Cup has been relocated to the UAE due to civil unrest in Bangladesh following student protests. India is placed in Group A, alongside strong contenders like Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The team will be aiming to break new ground and secure their maiden T20 World Cup victory.

India’s campaign promises excitement as they battle some of the world’s top teams, with hopes high for their first-ever T20 World Cup triumph.
