The wicketkeeper-batter played one of the finest innings of his international career during the quarter-final stage of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 against West Indies at Eden Gardens, helping India reach the semi-finals comfortably.
The former Rajasthan Royals skipper scored an unbeaten 97 off 50 balls at a time when India needed a strong performance from the top order. He was under pressure before the match, as he had spent much of the tournament on the bench and had not played any major innings earlier.
After taking India to victory, Samson celebrated in a calm and emotional way. He went down on his knees, closed his eyes, and said a silent prayer. The moment quickly became one of the most memorable scenes of the tournament. Sanju Samson Joins Chennai Super Kings Ahead of IPL 2026
The 31-year-old cricketer has moved from Rajasthan Royals to CSK in a trade deal before IPL 2026. After spending many years with Rajasthan and leading the team, Samson decided to take a new challenge.
