Sunil Narine played a decisive role as Kolkata Knight Riders edged past Lucknow Super Giants in a dramatic Super Over finish at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday, April 26. After Mohammed Shami struck a six off the final ball to push KKR’s 156-run chase into a Super Over, Narine delivered a match-winning spell, restricting LSG to just one run in the decisive over. Rinku Singh, who had earlier kept KKR alive in the contest, calmly finished the game by hitting the winning runs on the very first ball of the Super Over.

The defeat proved costly for Lucknow Super Giants, who slipped to the bottom of the points table with just four points from eight matches. Kolkata Knight Riders, meanwhile, moved up to eighth place with five points, boosting their campaign after a tense victory.

Fans widely praised the composure and resilience shown by the KKR unit, particularly highlighting Rinku Singh’s calm finish under pressure and the team’s ability to hold their nerve in a high-pressure situation. On the other hand, LSG faced strong criticism from supporters, especially for their batting collapse and inability to close out the match despite being in a winning position. The performance of key batter Nicholas Pooran came under particular scrutiny, as fans pointed to the lack of stability in the middle order as a major factor in the loss. Despite a late fightback that took the match into a Super Over, LSG faltered at the final hurdle, while KKR capitalised on the pressure to secure a crucial victory.

Key moments that defined the LSG vs KKR clash

Kolkata Knight Riders secured a dramatic victory over Lucknow Super Giants in a thrilling Super Over finish, with Sunil Narine and Rinku Singh emerging as the key match-winners in a low-scoring but high-pressure encounter.

Defending a modest total, KKR turned to Sunil Narine in the Super Over, and the veteran spinner delivered a sensational spell. He dismissed Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram off successive deliveries, restricting LSG to just 1/2. It marked the lowest-ever total recorded in a Super Over, as KKR completely dominated the decider with the ball.

Chasing a simple target of two runs, Rinku Singh and Rovman Powell walked out to finish the job. Rinku wasted no time, striking a boundary off the very first delivery to seal victory instantly for KKR and complete a memorable finish.

Earlier in the match, Rinku Singh had already played a crucial role with the bat, producing a brilliant unbeaten 83 off 51 balls. His composed yet aggressive innings anchored KKR after an early top-order collapse, as he accelerated brilliantly in the death overs with a flurry of boundaries and sixes to guide the team to 155/7. For LSG, Mohsin Khan delivered an outstanding bowling performance, claiming a five-wicket haul (5/23) to put KKR under pressure.

In response, Lucknow Super Giants began their chase steadily but lost momentum at key stages. Rishabh Pant (42) and Aiden Markram (31) stitched together a vital 57-run partnership to keep the innings on track. However, both wickets at crucial moments derailed the chase, leaving the lower order under pressure.

The match reached a dramatic turning point in the final over, with LSG needing 17 runs. Two waist-high no-balls from Kartik Tyagi shifted momentum sharply, and Mohammed Shami’s six off the final delivery forced the contest into a Super Over. Despite the late recovery, LSG collapsed in the decider, while KKR held their nerve under pressure to clinch a vital win. The result strengthens KKR’s campaign, while LSG are left to reflect on missed opportunities after a match they had in their control for long periods.
