The incredible achievements of the Indian cricket team over the past year were celebrated at the BCCI Naman Awards in New Delhi on Saturday. The event honoured several Indian cricket teams and players for their outstanding performances.

Ayush Mhatre, captain of the India national under-19 cricket team, spoke about the support of senior Indian stars during the ceremony. He said that the guidance of MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma helped the young team stay calm and confident during the tournament.

Indian cricket once again showed its strength at the Under-19 level. On February 6, the Mhatre-led team defeated the England under-19 cricket team by 100 runs in the final of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2026 at Harare Sports Club and won their record sixth title.

Ayush Mhatre Thanks Senior Players at BCCI Naman Awards

“It is a very special moment for us. We have been working hard for the past year, including the players and the support staff. We are happy that our efforts gave us the result,” said Ayush Mhatre.

“It is also a special evening because many senior players are here. We feel very proud and happy to be part of this event,” he added.

The BCCI Naman Awards celebrated the achievements of India’s top cricketers who performed well for the country in different tournaments during the year.

“It means a lot to me. It feels special to share the stage with such big cricketers. The guidance of Mahi bhai and Rohit bhai helped us win the U19 World Cup,” Mhatre said, referring to MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma.

Mhatre also spoke about his favourite moment from the tournament. “There were many special moments this year, but the catch that ended the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2026 final will always stay in my memory,” the young batter said.

The talented youngster, who also played for Chennai Super Kings, said he is excited for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.

Ayush Mhatre Shares Learnings from MS Dhoni

“I am very excited for the IPL. The training camps have started and we are enjoying the sessions,” said Ayush Mhatre, the young captain of the India national under-19 cricket team.

Mhatre also spoke about learning from the legendary MS Dhoni, who guided him during his early cricket journey. He said Dhoni has helped him understand captaincy and how to stay calm during important moments in a match.

“I learned a lot from MSD. He always guides me. He has helped me a lot with captaincy,” Mhatre said. “He told me to stay calm and make decisions with a cool mind. Sometimes decisions may not work, but we have to accept that and move forward.”

The 18-year-old batter also spoke about the chance of opening the batting for Chennai Super Kings with Sanju Samson, who played a key role in India’s win at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. “I am excited to bat with Sanju bhai. I have not met him yet, but I am looking forward to training and batting with him,” he added.
