Indian management has prepared Gurnoor Brar for the upcoming 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, and he showed his worth in the second ODI of the five-match series against New Zealand at Henry Farm Stadium in Wellington. He even gave Daryl Mitchell a fiery send-off after the latter’s dismissal.
It wasn’t a great start to the first innings with the bat for the New Zealand, who were put in to bat first on a surface which had been under the covers for a long time due to the rain. Mitchell was the glue of their batting line-up that helped them to cross the 100-run mark.

It was the final delivery of the 35th over of the innings. Daryl Mitchell was tired of the dot deliveries. He tried a few reverse-sweep shots but found the fielders on consecutive occasions. That was when Mitchell decided to free his arms and play a pressure-releasing shot.
Watch the moment here-
Mitchell went for the big shot and perished as the ball held onto the surface a bit from Axar Patel. The right-handed batter shimmied down the track and was a bit early into the lofted shot after not getting to the pitch of the ball.
The bat twisted at the point of impact. He ended up slicing it up in the air. Mitchell was eyeing to go over the long-on region. However, the ball ended up in the long-off’s hands. Gurnoor Brar, who shared a few words with Mitchell, ran with his arms aloft in front of Mitchell as the batter headed off for 55 runs.

New Zealand were bundled out for just 134 runs in 41 overs in the 47-over rain-curtailed clash, with none of their batters showing any authority in the middle. India's Brar returned with figures of 4/30 in 10 overs, while all of Auqib Nabi, Axar Patel, and Anshul Kamboj picked up two wickets each.
