KL Rahul in India colours after taking a stunning catch to dismiss Will Young during the 2nd ODI against New Zealand in Wellington.

India made a superb start to the five-match ODI series against New Zealand with the opening victory by five wickets at the Eden Gardens in Auckland, as they continued the same impressive bowling performances in the second game at the Hnry Stadium in Wellington. Their fielding was equally good as KL Rahul grabbed a stunning catch.

For another occasion in this trip, India’s captain, Shubman Gill, found the coin in his favour and decided to bowl first in the 47-over rain-curtailed game as the surface had been under the covers for a long time due to the iffy weather in Wellington.

It was the fourth delivery of the sixth over of the innings. Auqib Nabi went for a length delivery in the channel just outside the off stump against Will Young. The right-handed batter was neither forward nor back as he pushed forward. The edge was found as it flew to the right of the wicket-keeper.

KL Rahul was initially moving to his left as per the swing of the delivery. But he realised the edge later and dived across to his right and went with both gloves. The ball stuck in his right hand. Young looked very tentative in his brief stay for six runs before making his way back to the pavilion.

That was the second wicket for Nabi in this clash. He had to wait a lot to taste the success for the blue brigade due to a couple of dropped catches in the past.

How New Zealand struggled against India in the 2nd ODI: Key moments of the early collapse

New Zealand made a terrible start to the first innings with just 29 runs on the board inside the powerplay for the loss of three wickets. Nabi’s opening spell of 2/21, along with the attacking approach from Arshdeep Singh’s 0/10 in five overs, put enormous pressure on the home side.

India's Gurnoor Brar, coming as the second change bowler of the attack, continued the pressure with his spell of 2/8 in six overs with two maidens, including the wickets of Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips. The run rate was under three for the hosts in 25 overs.
