ICC punish Australia after massive defeat against India in 2025 ODI series
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has punished the Australian side after the massive defeat against the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side for the second ODI of three-match series in New Chandigarh.

The International Cricket Council has punished the Australian women's side after their record defeat against India during the three-match 50-over series as preparation for the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 in India and Sri Lanka. The Alyssa Healy-ed side has been fined 10% of their match fee for maintaining a slow over rate in New Chandigarh.
For the Australia fixture, the sanction was imposed by G. S. Lakshmi of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees after it was found that the visitors were two overs short of the target after the time allowances were taken into consideration. The two on-field umpires, Vrinda Rathi and Janani Narayanan, the third umpire, Lauren Agenbag, and the fourth umpire, Gayathri Venugopalan, leveled the charge.

In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five percent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.
Australia penalized for slow over-rate against India ahead of 2025 ODI World Cup
During the opening ODI of the three-match series, India women posted 281/7 in their allotted 50 overs with three half-centuries at the top order from Pratika Rawal, Smriti Mandhana, and Harleen Deol. Australia, in reply, chased down the target by eight wickets with six overs of the second innings, with Beth Mooney, Annabel Sutherland, and Phoebe Litchfield smashing three fifties.
In the second encounter of the series, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side cracked 292 runs in the first innings, shouldered by a fine 117-run knock of Smriti Mandhana, with the help of 14 boundaries and four sixes. However, none of them crossed 50 in the innings of the batting line-up.
In the second innings, Australia got bundled out for 190 in 40.5 overs as their batters were not able to celebrate a half-century in the second innings. India registered a 102-run victory, which is the biggest victory for any opposition in terms of runs against Australia. The third and final game of the series will take place on September 20 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
