India, after two successive T20I series defeats against Ireland and England, will begin their new journey with the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe on July 23 at the Harare Sports Club, under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer. The visitors named a refreshed squad featuring several new faces.
The pressure has been massive on the blue brigade, who lost their last two T20I series under the new leader against Ireland and England, including the 2-0 series defeat against the Irish side and the 4-0 T20I series loss against the Harry Brook-led side.
Key squad updates: Samson left out, Bishnoi replaces injured Chakaravarthy
India have called up the leg-spinner, Ravi Bishnoi, for the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, with the mystery spinner, Varun Chakaravarthy, being unavailable due to injury. Bishnoi joins the side as a replacement after the medical assessments confirmed that Chakravarthy, sidelined for the last two T20Is in England, would not be fit to come back.
Meanwhile, the selectors have ignored Sanju Samson for India’s three-match T20I series in Zimbabwe, making it one of the high-profile absentees from the visiting squad. In his last four T20I fixtures, the wicket-keeper batter smacked only 33 runs at an average of 8.25, including three single-figure runs.
Rinku Singh has also returned to their T20I plans along with Mayank Yadav; it features some fresh faces like Prabhsimran Singh, Yash Thakur, Ashok Sharma, and the left-arm spinner, Harsh Dubey.
