IPL 2023: 'It's been 13 games since Shaw scored a fifty': Ponting launches no-filter attack on out-of-form Prithvi Shaw
During the team’s game against SRH earlier this week, Ricky Ponting did not shy away from discussing the reasons behind removing Prithvi Shaw from the squad.

The Delhi Capitals have had a disappointing season thus far, winning just two of their seven games to fall at the bottom of the table. This year, their batting has been a major concern, and the fact that one of their most explosive batters, Prithvi Shaw, is going through a terrible time does not help the team. Shaw has only scored 47 runs in six games and was dropped from the DC XI during this week’s game against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

In addition, head coach Ricky Ponting’s remarks suggest that Shaw may have to remain sidelined for a longer period of time, despite the fact that his replacement in the position, Phil Salt, was unable to really rise to the occasion against the Sunrisers. Shaw’s poor batting performances thus far in the 2023 season were criticized harshly by the former Australian captain.
“I think it’s 13 games (considering IPL 2022 as well) since Prithvi has made a 50 opening the batting for the Delhi Capitals. There are a lot of other players at the top of the order with other teams that are playing a whole lot better than Prithvi,”
“Prithvi at his absolute best… we know he’s a match winner. That’s one of the reasons that he’s a retained player because we know if he bats a certain amount of balls, we win about 95% of the games. But so far this season, he hasn’t been able to produce,” .
Ponting further added
Ponting expressed in a self evident truth way that the side needn’t bother with Prithvi Shaw in the XI at the present time, as he referenced his details in this season
“I think the six games that he played were just over 40-odd runs, so that’s not what we require right now. So is it a tough decision to leave him out but hopefully the team that we put on the park tomorrow can go win another game for us,”
said the head coach.
