Punjab Kings (PBKS) registered an extraordinary 5-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) while chasing 204 in an exhilarating IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. This win granted PBKS a place in the IPL 2025 Final.

MI had a moderate start with Suryakumar Yadav scoring an attractive 44 runs off 26 balls while also having the support of Tilak Varma, who scored 44 runs but took a little longer (29 balls). Jonny Bairstow contributed with 38 runs off 24 balls as MI hit 203 for 6. MI had not taken advantage of the early breakthroughs when Yadav, Bairstow, and Varma scored and lost wickets regularly in the middle overs, away from a late explosion. Among PBKS bowlers, Azmatullah Omarzai was the pick with 2 for 43, while Stoinis and Jamieson also picked up scalps.

Chasing 204, PBKS had composed batting performances from all players, with Shreyas Iyer putting the chase to rest with a masterclass knock of 87 runs off just 41 balls.*. Josh Inglis was vital in the middle with 38 runs off 21 balls, accelerating through the middle overs and attacking MI's bowlers. MI's bowlers, struggling under pressure with ineffective death bowling, saw Ashwani Kumar finishing with 2 for 55. Punjab Kings reached the target in 19 overs with composure and nerves of steel.

When asked about their loss to RCB earlier, Iyer said it didn't define their season. Iyer feels the job is half done, and now it is about recovery and preparing for the final. 

Nehal Wadhera (PBKS): Nehal Wadhera shared that he loves big matches and was happy to perform well in a big game. Having played previously with MI, he was aware of their bowling plans and adjusted his batting. He did not target anyone purposely and just wanted to convert the balls in his area. Wadhera called Iyer a "chase master" and praised his captainship. Wadhera hopes PBKS can take this confidence into the final.

Hardik Pandya (MI Captain): Hardik Pandya praised Shreyas Iyer’s brilliant knock and admitted PBKS handled the pressure better. He felt MI couldn’t execute well, especially at the death.
