Even though the Kolkata Knight Riders celebrated their super-over victory during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, they were massively frustrated in the first innings. 

KKR lost their third wicket, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, through theobstructing the field’ dismissal when he changed his direction while turning back for the single as Mohammad Shami’s throw hit the batter’s back and couldn’t get onto the stumps.

The KKR youngster has been fined 20 percent of his match fee due to the animated reaction to the controversial dismissal, as he received one demerit point for breaching the league’s code of conduct.

In an official statement from the IPL governing body, the right-handed batter was found guilty of a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2. This relates to the abuse of equipment during the game, as the Mumbai-born player admitted to the offence after making the statement.

"Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been fined 20% of his match fee and has also accumulated one Demerit Point for breaching Level 1 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He was found to have breached Article 2.2, which relates to abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures and fittings during a match.The statement added.

The incident took place in the fifth over of the first innings when Raghuvanshi, on nine runs, pushed the delivery against Prince Yadav and set for a quick single, only to be sent back by Cameron Green from the non-striker’s end. 

He scrambled to make his ground, but to his fault, he changed the direction while turning back for the single. LSG appealed immediately as the decision was taken upstairs. After the review, the TV umpire ruled him out for obstructing the field.

The KKR camp was shocked. Their head coach, Abhishek Nayar, rushed to have a few words with the fourth umpire. Shane Watson reacted angrily to the decision, as DJ Bravo couldn’t trust it at all.
