The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have defeated the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Wednesday and moved to the top of the points table with 14 points under their belt. They just have one more match to win, and then they can qualify for the playoffs.

Meanwhile, PBKS are stuck with 13 points as they have lost two consecutive matches in the tournament. They still have four more games to go and would like to win at least two of them to qualify. But yesterday's hero was Heinrich Klaasen, who scored 69 runs in 43 balls and helped SRH win the clash.

Heinrich Klaasen opens up on mindset shift that transformed his batting in IPL 2026

T20 cricket has evolved, and so have the batters. But the constant chatter around the strike rate has more often created stress among the players. Talking about a shift in mindset regarding batting and strike rate, Heinrich Klaasen has opened up about his transformation. He also spoke about how forming partnerships is important.

"I gave up on the idea that I have to do everything and score at a 300 strike-rate every time I go out to bat. I’m playing the situation in front of me and trying to bat as well as possible within the partnership, I’m in. At the moment I'm very fortunate that a player like Nitish is hitting the ball so cleanly that it takes a lot of pressure off me. I don’t have to take extra risks, and I’m just making sure I put the team in a decent position for the bowlers to have enough to defend. The runs don’t mean anything if we don’t win games of cricket. The team is playing wonderful cricket at the moment. We’re peaking at the right time. Hopefully, we can secure a good playoff spot & we don’t take these wins for granted," said Heinrich Klaasen.

Klaasen’s explosive knocks making him one of the standout performers of IPL 2026

Heinrich Klaasen is the Orange Cap holder in the ongoing IPL 2026 and he was pretty ecstatic about it. The starting games were not great for him but he somehow managed to change everything in his favour and is now the best batter in the tournament. Unlike Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, Klaasen didn't look to hit all the balls but picked up the bad ones and deposited them into the stands.

Standing on the crease and forming partnerships with the players is something Klaasen has done beautifully for the team. SRH have defended their target of 235 runs successfully by beating PBKS by 33 runs. It will be intriguing to watch how the rest of the tournament will shape out for Klaasen as well as for his team.
