Sunrisers Hyderabad delivered a commanding all-round performance to defeat Punjab Kings by 33 runs and climb to the top of the IPL 2026 points table on Wednesday. The victory continued SRH’s perfect record when defending totals above 220, as they maintained their unbeaten streak in such situations with another clinical display.

SRH’s bowlers set the tone early in the second innings, while their fielders backed them up with sharp work on the field. In contrast, Punjab Kings once again struggled with lapses in fielding, which proved costly in a high-pressure chase. The overall discipline shown by SRH highlighted the difference between the two sides on the day.

With this win, Pat Cummins’ side moved to 14 points from 11 matches, overtaking Punjab Kings, who now sit second with 13 points. The result also boosted SRH’s Net Run Rate to +0.737, strengthening their chances of finishing in the top two as the playoff race heats up. This article provides a detailed update on the IPL 2026 points table, including team standings, wins, losses, and net run rate.

Sunrisers Hyderabad go top with dominant 33-run win over Punjab Kings

Sunrisers Hyderabad delivered a complete performance to defeat Punjab Kings by 33 runs and climb to the top of the IPL 2026 points table. Batting first on a flat surface, Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a massive 235/4, powered by strong half-centuries from Heinrich Klaasen and Ishan Kishan. Klaasen scored a fluent 69 off 43 balls, while Kishan added a quick 55 off 32. The early momentum came from Abhishek Sharma (35 off 13) and Travis Head (38 off 19), who guided SRH to 79/1 in the powerplay.

Punjab Kings’ fielding mistakes proved costly, as multiple dropped catches and a missed stumping allowed SRH’s batters to build a big total. Both Klaasen and Kishan made full use of the chances given to them. Nitish Kumar Reddy then added quick runs at the end with an unbeaten 29 off 13 balls, pushing the score beyond reach.

In reply, PBKS struggled from the start and managed only 57/3 in the powerplay. Pat Cummins led the bowling attack well with early wickets, while Eshan Malinga kept things tight. Cooper Connolly fought hard with an unbeaten 107 off 59 balls, but did not get enough support from the other end as wickets kept falling.

SRH’s disciplined bowling, led by Cummins (2/34) and Malinga (1/34), ensured control throughout the chase. PBKS finished at 202/7, falling well short of the target. Their poor fielding, including three dropped catches and several lapses in the outfield, added to their problems, while bowlers like Marco Jansen and Arshdeep Singh conceded heavily.

With this win, SRH registered their seventh victory of the season and moved to 14 points, strengthening their chances of making the playoffs. PBKS, meanwhile, suffered their third straight defeat and continue to struggle for consistency in IPL 2026.
