Indian cricket is now celebrating the IPL 2026 festival, while the world of cricket is appreciating this successful competition. While the IPL 2026 is in the early phase, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also put serious focus on the future of Test cricket.

Since Gautam Gambhir has joined as the head coach of the Indian national cricket team, the team has faced a serious transition period, especially in the most challenging format Test cricket. While the former captains Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and legendary off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin have retired from red-ball cricket, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane aren't present in the latest Test cricket program, which has massively affected the Test team.

After closely missing out on qualifying for the 2025 ICC World Test Championship Final, majorly because of losing the home Test series against New Zealand, the away Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Recently, while India fought hard and brilliantly to draw the away Test series against England, they suffered a home Test series defeat against South Africa.

Recent home Test series defeats have set a new concern for the Indian Test cricket team, while the Men in Blue are flying high in ODI and T20I formats. However, the BCCI is setting an example that brings confidence to the Indian cricket fans that the board is serious about red-ball cricket.

Meanwhile, the Centre of Excellence (CoE), led by the former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman, especially known for his solid batting in Test cricket, is ready to focus on creating a pool of cricketers for red-ball cricket.

On the other hand, there will be a four-team Intra COE four-day red-ball matches for U25 players. These plans are really exciting, as many fans have also appreciated the board.
