Watch: Ishan Kishan smashes double century vs South Zone in Duleep Trophy 2026 final

The left-handed wicket-keeper batter of the Indian side, Ishan Kishan, while captaining the East Zone, during the Duleep Trophy 2026 final against South Zone at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, celebrated a fine double century to put his side in a clinical position to win the trophy.  

East Zone qualified for the final after they beat the North-East Zone during the quarter-final by an innings and 210 runs, and later beat the Central Zone by four wickets in the 162-run chase at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 1 in Bengaluru.

Ishan Kishan's double ton powers East Zone past 500 on Day 2 in Chennai

The century-run opening partnership between Abhimanyu Easwaran and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi provided the East Zone with a fine platform for a massive score on the board. However, when they required the most, Kishan recorded a huge stand with Kumar Kushagra in the middle.

The left-handed batter celebrated his half-century with a fine single before celebrating it with a massive six over deep mid-wicket. He continued his natural aggression with the bat against both the pacers and spinners and notched up his century, his 10th in first-class cricket, with a fine boundary straight down the ground.

There was a period when the South Zone captain, Tilak Varma, tried different placements in the field and brought Mohammed Siraj into the attack, but none of them was able to break Kishan’s patience. He soon reached his 150 with a single and turned his focus on the next milestone. 

After getting to 190, Kishan was focused on the singles and doubles before registering his double century with a fine boundary being slapped, the drive past the cover-point. That was his maiden double century in FC cricket. He nailed several sixes in the next 30 minutes before retiring hurt on 250 runs.

The Indian batter left the field amidst incredible applause from the entire ground. He got 250 runs off 301 balls at a strike rate of 83.06, shouldering 27 boundaries and seven sixes. East Zone crossed 600 runs on the board and ruled out the result of their defeat from the final.
