During the Duleep Trophy 2026 final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai between South Zone and East Zone, the latter’s captain, Ishan Kishan, became the latest to celebrate a double century in the final of India's domestic red-ball tournament. It was a marathon knock of 334 off 334 balls, decorated with 30 boundaries and 7 sixes.  

Over the decades, the Duleep Trophy has witnessed multiple memorable performances. However, celebrating a double century remains an exceptionally rare achievement for the players. From the legendary stars of Raman Lamba to the modern-day players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, only a handful of players managed to cross the 200-run mark in the title clash.

Kishan’s knock became more significant because of the records being attached to it. He became the first captain and the wicket-keeper batter of the East Zone side to register a double-century in the Duleep Trophy final, while his fine knock of 270 runs remained the second-highest individual score, behind Lamba’s iconic 320.

It’s very interesting how the list of the Duleep Trophy final double-centurions spans various generations of Indian cricket. All the players- Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Raman Lamba, Anshuman Gaekwad, Cheteshwar Pujara, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Kishan- have produced innings of 200 or more in the incredible final, with Lamba’s 320 remaining the highest score.

Fos Kishan, the achievement represents a milestone in his red-ball career. His innings displayed patience along with the trademark attacking strike play and underlined his skill to make a major impact in first-class cricket. It also added another chapter to the growing domestic cricket resume.

Here is a look at the batters who have scored double centuries in the Duleep Trophy finals. The opposition they faced with the memorable knocks put them at the top of the table. But where does Kishan’s 270 rank among the great individual performances in the competition’s final-

#1 Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi (200) vs West Zone in Brabourne-

West Zone, during the final of the Duleep Trophy 1967, were bundled out for 423 runs in the first innings, thanks to the twin centuries from Nari Contractor’s 130-run knock and Ajit Wadekar’s 116-run knock along with the half-centuries from Dilip Sardesai and Bapu Nadkarni.

South Zone, in reply, declared on 440 runs for the loss of seven wickets as Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi drilled a fine knock of 200 runs along with fifties from Venkataraman Subramanya and Motganhali Jaisimha. Later, West Zone were restricted to 100/5 as South Zone lifted the trophy due to the first innings lead.

#2 Anshuman Gaekwad (216) vs North Zone in Bhilai-

Batting first, thanks to the superb knock of 216 runs from the opening batter of the West Zone side, Anshuman Gaekwad, they posted a massive score of 444 runs on the board during the Duleep Trophy 1987 final, as Suresh Keshwala also nailed a fine knock of 60 runs. But that wasn’t enough on the road as North Zone recorded a huge score of 868 runs in the first innings.

North’s opening batter, Raman Lamba, smashed a thrilling knock of 320 runs off just 471 balls, thanks to 30 boundaries and six sixes at a strike rate of around 68, along with captain Madan Lal’s 107 runs and the fifties from Manu Nayar and Krishnan Bhaskar Pillai. The two fifties from the openers Rajput and Sulakshan Kulkarni took them to 284/6 as North Zone won the title at the end.

#3 Raman Lamba (320) vs West Zone in Bhilai-

When the West Zone recorded a massive score of 444 runs in the first innings of the Duleep Trophy 1987 final in Bhilai, based on the opening batter Anshuman Gaekwad’s knock of 216 runs off 344 balls at a strike rate of 62.79, the pressure was massive on the North Zone side.

But the latter continued to put century partnerships in the entire batting department, as their opener, Raman Lamba, drilled a dashing knock of 320 runs along with Madan Lal’s 107 runs. Even Manu Nayar and Bhaskar Pillai also celebrated their respective fifties to post a huge score of 868 runs on the board. North Zone won the contest based on the first innings lead.

#4 Yusuf Pathan (210) vs South Zone in Hyderabad-

It was the final of the Duleep Trophy 2010 in Hyderabad between South Zone and West Zone when the former posted a massive score of 400 runs in the first innings as their captain and wicket-keeper batter, Dinesh Karthik, drilled a fine knock of 183 runs off 226 balls along with 53 runs off Ganesh Satish. Apart from Yusuf Pathan’s 108, no one could stand tall as West Zone gave away a lead of 149 runs in the first innings. 

Karthik continued his superb form and drilled a dashing knock of 150 runs off 162 balls at a strike rate of 92.59, along with Chidambaram Gautam’s 88 runs as South Zone declared on 386/9 to set a target of 536 runs.

Amazingly, West Zone completed the chase by three wickets. They got a fine start from opener Chirag Pathak’s 130 while their captain, Wasim Jaffer, nailed 66 runs. But the most impressive knock of the fourth-innings chase came from Yusuf’s unbeaten knock of 210 runs off 190 balls at a strike rate of 110.52, thanks to 19 boundaries and 10 sixes.

#5 Cheteshwar Pujara (256) vs India Red in Greater Noida-

It was the final of the Duleep Trophy 2016 in Greater Noida between India Blue and India Red. The former batted first and registered a massive score of 693 runs for the loss of six wickets. Their number three, Cheteshwar Pujara, remained unbeaten on 256 runs off 363 balls, along with Sheldon Jackson’s 134. Gautam Gambhir and Mayank Agarwal also nailed their respective fifties.

Stuart Binny’s 98 and the half-centuries from Amit Mishra and Kuldeep Yadav took India Red to 356 runs as Ravindra Jadeja returned with figures of 5/95 in 34 overs. India Blue declared on 179 runs for the loss of five wickets as Agarwal nailed 52 runs. India Red were bowled out for 161 and lost the encounter by 355 runs as the Blue side lifted the trophy.

#6 Yashasvi Jaiswal (265) vs South Zone in Coimbatore-

It was the final of the Duleep Trophy 2022 when West Zone was bundled out for 270 runs as Het Patel fell short of two runs from his century. R Sai Kishore picked up a fifer before South Zone gained a vital lead in the first innings with Baba Indrajit claiming a fine knock of 118 runs at number four, thanks to 14 boundaries at a strike rate of 94.40.

In reply, West Zone declared on 585 runs for the loss of four wickets. Their opening batter, Yashasvi Jaiswal, drilled a thrilling knock of 265 runs off 323 balls, thanks to 30 boundaries and four sixes, while Sarfaraz Khan remained unbeaten on 127 runs. At the end, South Zone were bundled out for 234 runs as West Zone earned the title by 294 runs.

#7 Ishan Kishan (270) vs South Zone in Chennai-

Winning the toss during the Duleep Trophy 2026 final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, East Zone posted a massive score of 708 runs in the first innings. They got a fine start thanks to the century-run opening partnership with Shikhar Mohan and Abhimanyu Easwaran getting their fifties.

However, the most memorable knock of the innings came from their captain and wicket-keeper batter, Ishan Kishan, who drilled 270 runs off just 334 balls, smashing 30 boundaries and seven sixes, along with Kumar Kushagra’s 101-run knock. Kishan, having made his return to India’s white-ball sides, is knocking on the door for his potential return to the Test side.
