It was the fourth Test match between Australia and India in 1948 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The hosts batted first and posted 394 runs, with captain Donald Bradman smashing a fine knock of 132 runs, thanks to his eight boundaries at a strike rate of 64.70. The tourists declared on 291 runs for the loss of nine wickets, with Vinoo Mankad getting 116 runs.

The former Sri Lankan batter, Duleep Mendis, got the landmark during the only Test against India in 1982 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. In the first innings, he smashed 105 runs off just 123 balls with the help of 17 boundaries and one six to post 346 runs on the board as the blue brigade replied with 566/6 dec.
