Two young cricketers of Indian origin, Jerrssis Wadia and Aryan Sharma, have earned places in Cricket Australia’s pathway squads, underscoring their growing stature in Australian cricket. They are not the first men’s cricketers to play, with Tanveer Sangha and Gurinder Sandhu, the two Indian-origin players, featuring for Australia.

Wadia has been named in the Cricket Australia XI that will take on Bangladesh in the three-day match in Darwin from August 6 to 8. The squad also includes some of the prominent future stars of their national side, including Sam Konstas, Josh Philippe, and Matt Gikiewicz.

Who is Jerrssis Wadia? The Mumbai-born all-rounder is now in Cricket Australia's XI to face Bangladesh

Born in 2001 in Mumbai, Wadia had represented the Baroda side in the Under-16 and Under-19 levels before he decided to move to Adelaide as a teenager. The all-rounder progressed through the development system of South Australia and later was spotted by the former coach of the side, Tim Nielsen.

Wadia made his debut in the Big Bash League (BBL) in December 2025 for the Adelaide Strikers and smashed three consecutive sixes in just his second appearance. Overall, he has 52 runs in seven innings of the BBL at a strike rate of 136.84.

On the other hand, Wadia comes from a cricket-loving family, as his grandfather holds the Guinness World Record for being the oldest player to score a century in minor cricket. He also shares ties with the veteran Indian all-rounder, Hardik Pandya.

Who is Aryan Sharma? The Victorian batter heading to Chennai's MRF Academy with Australia's spin group

The same opportunity has come for Aryan Sharma, the Victorian all-rounder, who has been selected in Australia’s Men’s Development squad, which will tour India for the MRF Academy Programme in Chennai. They will play two matches on the spin-friendly wickets on August 5-6 and August 10-11 as part of their preparations.
