With the Punjab Kings completing the chase of 265 runs during their previous fixture of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, the expectation was massive as they locked horns with the Rajasthan Royals at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh.

The visiting captain, Riyan Parag, won the toss and decided to bowl first on a surface that was under the covers for a couple of days due to rain, which could pose issues for the batters with the new ball inside the power play.

Jofra Archer removes Priyansh Arya for 29 in IPL 2026

Jofra Archer had made it a habit in this IPL 2026 to get batters on the very first ball of the innings, but the PBKS opener, Prabhsimran Singh, smashed the lanky pacer for two successive boundaries in the very first over of the game.

From the other end, Priyansh Arya started his brutal batting as the left-handed batter took on Nandre Burger. On the second delivery of the second over, he slammed the seamer in front of the square for a boundary before smashing one six and two more fours in the next three balls.

The challenge for the Delhi-born was going to be against Archer, who nearly had his wicket on the first ball of the third over. Arya had a poke at the short ball as his outside edge rolled wide of the diving wicket-keeper for a boundary, as RR paid the price of not keeping a slip.

On the fourth delivery of the over, Archer bowled another cracking delivery as the youngster played a nothing shot, looking to drop his wrists. But the ball flew off the shoulder of the blade and went over the lone slip fielder for a boundary.

On the very next delivery, the England pacer finally had his man as Arya’s aerial shot went high in the air and ended up in the hands of the mid-off fielder. It was the second dismissal for the batter against the bowler in two innings.

Punjab Kings continue aggressive batting inside powerplay

Arya was dismissed for 29 runs off 11 deliveries at a strike rate of 263.34, thanks to five boundaries and one six. Prabhsimran, who was struggling at the start, slowly started to get back in his old rhythm of the campaign.

The issue for RR was their defensive mindset. They could have got Arrya a little earlier had they kept the slip fielder for the batter, who edged twice in three balls. The home side finished the power play with 65/1.

Brief Scores (at the time of writing): PBKS- 96/2 (Prabhsimran Singh 32*, Jofra Archer 1/12) vs RR
