Jonty Rhodes names the Indian cricketer who is a complete all-round fielder

Former South African star cricketer Jonty Rhodes recently revealed his favourite Indian fielders.

During his cricket career, South African star Jonty Rhodes was famous for his incredible fielding. He set a high standard for fielding in international cricket. He took 34 catches in Test cricket and 105 catches in ODI cricket. He was the first South African to take 100 ODI catches. 

Although he retired from international cricket more than 20 years ago, Rhodes still lonely holds the record for most catches in an ODI innings by a non-wicketkeeper with five catches against West Indies in the 1993 Brabourne ODI. 

Thanks to the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rhodes has become a very familiar face in Indian cricket. He has coached Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants.

I am a big fan of Suresh Raina: Jonty Rhodes

In the modern generation, Indian cricket has produced many great fielders. Rhodes is a fan of former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina. Recently, the former South African cricketer praised Raina’s fielding quality. 

Rhodes said, as quoted by The Telegraph, "I am a big fan of Suresh Raina. I enjoyed his playing days, but now he has retired. In the past in India, the cricketing infrastructure wasn't there to support the passion and love for cricket. Suresh Raina was someone who used to throw himself around the field.”

Suresh Raina served the Indian team between 2005 and 2018. He played 18 Tests, 226 ODIs, and 78 T20Is. 

Rhodes also called himself lucky to experience multiple sports. Apart from cricket, he also played football and hockey. 

Rhodes added, "Unlike Raina, I had a very fortunate upbringing. I played football, hockey, and cricket on good grounds. So I was very fortunate.” 

Jonty Rhodes praised Ravindra Jadeja

Talking about the active cricketers, Rhodes highly praised the Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. The former Proteas cricketer praised Jadeja’s speed, throw, and fielding qualities on the boundary and the circle. 

Rhodes even compared Jadeja’s throw level with the legendary Australian captain Rick Ponting, who was an extraordinary fielder in his generation. 

Rhodes claimed, “I think Jadeja is at the next level, he doesn't dive as much but he is so fast to the ball. And his accuracy at throwing down the stumps is somewhat like Ricky Ponting. He fields on the boundary, he fields on the circle. He is a complete all-round fielder.”

Ravindra Jadeja has been serving the Indian team since 2009. He is a very important player for his country in all three formats. The incredible all-rounder has played 72 Tests, 197 ODIs, and 74 T20Is. 

Even at the age of 35 years, Jadeja is still an outstanding fielder.
