The final day of the three-match series between South Africa and Australia at Newlands in Cape Town began with a thrilling start, as the visitors needed 288 runs in 90 overs while the hosts needed 10 wickets. And Kagiso Rabada gave them a fiery start with three wickets, including his 350th scalp.

Kagiso Rabada didn’t enjoy his first-innings outing, returning with figures of 1/98 in 23 overs at an economy rate of 4.30. The pressure was on him, along with the responsibility of shouldering the entire bowling attack, and he gave them a strong start with the ball.

It was the final delivery of the seventh over of the fourth innings for Australia on the fifth day when Rabada dismissed Travis Head for 14 runs off 26 balls. It was a 143 kmph ball outside the off stump from the right-arm pacer as the left-handed batter went to play a loose drive without any foot movement.

It caught a thick outside edge to the right of Marco Jansen at gully. The lanky fielder nestled it with both hands and held it like the most precious thing of the moment and threw it high into the skies. The southpaw wasn’t happy with his shot and went back to the dressing room.

Rabada becomes the fourth South African to claim 350 Test wickets, joining Dale Steyn (439), Shaun Pollock (421), and Makhaya Ntini (390). He also becomes the fourth fastest to get 350 Test wickets among the pace bowlers, a table led jointly by Richard Hadlee and Dale Steyn.

How South Africa started their fourth-innings defence against Australia in the 3rd Test

Australia made a nightmarish start to the chase with Matt Renshaw being dismissed on the third ball for a golden duck, while Marnus Labuschagne followed him three balls later. Head was the aggressor in the middle before being dismissed. South Africa's Rabada breathed fire with the new ball.

Just when it seemed like Cameron Green and Josh Inglis were engaged in a good partnership for the fourth wicket, the latter was dismissed through a run-out and went back to the pavilion. Australia were four down under 50 runs.
