In the previous fixture for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Sanju Samson took the center stage with a dashing century against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. That increased the expectation from the wicket-keeper to continue the same dominance during their next fixture against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium at Chepauk. 

The home side, put into bat first by the visiting captain, lost their captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, early in the innings as the right-handed opening batter’s struggled continued in this campaign. But that was a blessing in disguise with Ayush Mhatre providing them the strong start with fiery shots around the park.

Sanju Samson dismissed for 48 against KKR in IPL 2026

Sanju Samson started the game with three successive boundaries as he hammered Vaibhav Arora around the park. The best of the three was the second one when the Kerala-born rocked back and cut it through the point region. For the next few overs, he didn’t get the strike much with Mhatre showing his class from the other end.

But once he did, Samson welcomed Anukul Roy’s new over with a massive six. He got under the flighted delivery and smoked it straight back over the sightscreen for a massive six. He also sat on the back foot and latched on to the short delivery from Kartik Tyagi for a six before punching the pacer straight for the same result.

However, Tyagi had the last laugh on the very next delivery. It was on the length but came tailing in with an extra pace. Samson’s feet didn’t move much as he went for a wild slog only to miss the connection. The ball rattled into the stumps to send the batter back for 48 runs in 32 balls, thanks to four boundaries and three sixes.

CSK hope to cross 200-run mark vs KKR

After the end of 14 overs, the hosts reached 136/3 with Dewald Brevis struggling to get going for 25 runs in 18 balls. However, they needed someone to continue the onslaught in the death overs. They tackled the pace well at the start, but could they continue the same pace to finish it off?

Sunil Narine continued his magic as he had figures of 0/16 in three overs for an economy rate of just 5.30. Even Anukul was brilliant for his 1/21 in the three overs.
