When KL Rahul was dropped during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash between the Delhi Capitals and the Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, the man in crime, Shashank Singh, didn’t perhaps realize how costly that could prove to be as the home side went off to a clinical start.

Two balls later, Arshdeep Singh eventually got the wicket of Pathum Nissanka to break the opening stand. Nitish Rana walked out to bat at number three and joined KL Rahul in the middle as their century partnership provided the home side a strong platform.

Rahul played some supreme shots around the park. But one of the most eye-catching shots of the game came off his bat during the 13th over of the innings. On the third ball, the right-handed batter opened up his arms and bludgeoned against the full and wide outside off stump for a massive six.

Had Shashank grabbed the catch, it could have been a totally different story of the game. Rahul completed his half-century off just 26 balls, and from thereon, he accelerated to get a flurry of boundaries and over boundaries towards the end to celebrate his century.

The Bengaluru-born was well supported by Nitish Rana from the other end, as the southpaw clubbed a 31-run over against Xavier Bartlett, who had absolutely no idea of the right line and length and was put into the stands.

Eventually, with another boundary, Rahul celebrated his sixth century of the IPL in just 47 balls. He now joined Chris Gayle to be the third-leading centurion maker of the competition, along with Virat Kohli and Jos Buttler.

Delhi reaches to 264 against PBKS in IPL 2026

Rahul made his way to an unbeaten 125 runs off 54 balls at a strike rate of 233.33 with the help of 13 boundaries and eight sixes, while Rana smashed 72 runs off just 36 balls, smashing 10 boundaries and two sixes as DC reached 213/1 in 16 overs.

Punjab looked clueless with the ball. All the bowlers, apart from Yuzvendra Chahal’s figures of 1/29 in three overs, had an economy rate of more than 10 in the innings.
