The Punjab Kings (PBKS) have started their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 campaign with four consecutive wins. Since the previous season of the league, PBKS have played some quality cricket, highlighting their squad strength and captain Shreyas Iyer's leadership skills. They were beaten by RCB in the IPL 2025 final, but Iyer has different plans this season.

Keeping the leadership aside, Iyer is in incredible form as well. He scored 66 runs in the previous match against the Mumbai Indians (MI) and helped the team take the game home. The right-handed batter is one of the most dangerous yet responsible batters in the tournament, and there's no argument over it. He was also in India's T20I squad but didn't get a chance to play. If he continues to perform in the IPL, the selectors will have no reason but to include him in the team.

Shreyas Iyer led PBKS currently occupy top spot on points table

Shreyas Iyer is a versatile player and captain, and we have seen enough of it in the IPL seasons. First, he led KKR to their third title in 2024 and then helped PBKS to reach the final after a decade in 2025. This year, Iyer has the same plans. He wants his team to lift their maiden trophy. Speaking on JioStar, he revealed his plans for winning the trophy.

The PBKS skipper spoke at length about their plans and how they are always playing for themselves, which is the most important thing in cricket. Every match is important. While the results are not in anyone's hands, putting the best foot forward is crucial, and he expects the same from every player in the team.

"The mission, obviously, is to lift the trophy. But I always feel that the more you stay in the present, the more you stay in control of what is in your hands at that moment, and you just have to go full throttle. You don't have to think too far ahead or dwell on the past. I reiterate the same point to my teammates as well, that when we are out there, we are playing for ourselves, not against the opponents. We just want to improve each day and make sure we put our best foot forward. When everything comes together and that synergy builds, everything falls into place," Iyer said.
