Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had already shown his capabilities during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 with some aggressive knocks, but he didn’t get the century and the big innings that he was looking for. The left-handed batter played a fine knock of 103 runs off just 37 balls during the fixture against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Jaipur. 

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was dismissed through a leg before the stump, but that wasn’t before he celebrated the third fastest century of the competition in just 36 balls, failing to beat his own record, which he earned off 35 balls against the Gujarat Titans.

Ravichandran Ashwin lauds Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s century

The former Indian spin all-rounder, Ravichandran Ashwin, has praised the opening batter’s fine century, which eventually ended in a defeat. He admired the knock and called how he and his parents had become fans of the southpaw. 

“I have to praise Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. What a batting it was from him. And the way he got out, we were all sad in the house. We were all watching the game, and the way he celebrated his century with the six was incredible. I watch every Rajasthan Royals game with Mom and Dad. Man, I’m telling you, they are massive Vaibhav Suryavanshi fans.” Ashwin expressed on his YouTube channel.

He reckoned that his mother wasn’t happy the way Sooryavanshi was dismissed and hoped to see a 150+ score from the 15-year-old just like how KL Rahul got it in the afternoon clash for the Delhi Capitals against the Punjab Kings.

“I’ve never seen my father admire anyone the way he admires Vaibhav. With every shot, he gets so excited and says, ‘What a shot! Oh amazing! What a player!’ Mom keeps saying, ‘Look at his chubby cheeks!’ and ‘Look at that celebration!’ She just loves watching this young kid.” The all-rounder shed light.

“In my neighborhood, everyone acts like their gully cricketer has been playing in the ground. When he got dismissed, my mother wanted him to go and score a 150 like KL Rahul. She was not happy that he was trapped leg before stumps after getting the century.” The veteran concluded.

RR faces its fifth defeat of IPL 2026 campaign

The Royals were excellent with the bat in the first as they posted a strong score of 228 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Apart from Sooryavanshi, Dhruv Jurel smacked 51 runs off 35 balls with the help of eight boundaries and one six.

Sunrisers completed the chase by five wickets with just nine balls to spare. Ishan Kishan, the wicket-keeper, clubbed a strong knock of 74 runs in 31 balls with the help of 11 boundaries and three sixes to find themselves at the third position of the points table.
