Jofra Archer has made it a habit to pick wickets off his very first ball of the innings during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, and he nearly had the same effect in the clash between the Rajasthan Royals and the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Since his return from a long-time injury during the third Test at Lord’s last year against India, Jofra Archer has found his rhythm back, and during this particular clash, he bowled with full pace from the very first delivery of the 228-run defense.

Ishan Kishan gets lucky six off his helmet in IPL 2026

On the very first ball of the innings, Archer found the outside edge of Travis Head, whose both feet were in the air as he tried to tackle the ball outside the off stump. But Dhruv Jurel dropped the catch behind the stumps while diving to his left.

Two balls later, the left-handed batter smashed the short ball against Archer. He used the pace and guided the ball over the ropes. There was a fielder stationed at the third man, but it sailed past him to his past. But on his very next delivery, he was dismissed by getting the edge, and Jurel completed the catch this time around.

But the scary part was the last delivery of the opening over. It was a nasty short ball at 145.4 kph from the right-arm pacer. Ishan Kishan, the new batter, was ducking for cover. But it took the top edge, hit the helmet, and flew over the keeper for a huge six. The bowler had a puzzled look on his face as to how the ball could fly for a six after taking the edge.

SRH starts strongly in 229-run chase against RR

Rajasthan didn’t get the finish they wanted with just 44 runs coming off the last five overs of the innings. Earlier, their opening batter, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, smashed a dashing knock of 103 runs in just 37 balls at a strike rate of 278.38, with the help of five boundaries and 12 sixes. They ended up with 228/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

The fielding wasn’t up to the mark for the Royals, who dropped a few catches and missed a few balls while judging the direction. The home side was smacked for 57 runs in four overs for the loss of one wicket.

Brief Scores (at the time of writing): SRH 89/1 (Ishan Kishan 35*, Jofra Archer 1/25) vs RR 228/6 (Vaibhav Sooryavanshi 103, Eshan Malinga 2/38)
