During The Hundred 2026 contest between the Birmingham Phoenix and Trent Rockets at Edgbaston, a hilarious incident took place when the batter, Mitchell Santner, asked for a review and was dismissed on the run-out as the commentators, Ravi Shastri and Simon Doull, couldn’t believe their eyes.

The Rockets tried hard in the massive chase of 214 runs as Tom Banton played a sensational knock of 67 runs off 32 balls with the help of four boundaries and five sixes. But they fell short of the target by 10 runs at the end.

It was the 85th delivery of the chase when Banton slapped the ball from Ben Dwarshuis down the ground for a brace. That was a fuller-length delivery with the fielder gathering the ball quickly and throwing it back to the non-strikers’ end.

Both the batters decided to come back for the double as Santner had to dive. But he was short of the crease, which the on-field umpire didn’t realize and refused to go to the third umpire. That was when Santner himself called for the review.

And as it turned out, the third umpire found the batter short of the crease and sent him back for just seven runs off eight deliveries. That was a hilarious situation with both the commentators bursting into laughter.

The match: Joe Clarke and Will Smeed power Birmingham Phoenix to 214 as Trent Rockets fall 10 runs short

Birmingham Phoenix’s openers, Will Smeed and Joe Clarke, put up an opening partnership of 104 runs, with both celebrating their respective half-centuries. Clarke smashed 68 runs off 33 balls at a strike rate of 206.06 with the help of seven boundaries and four sixes. Rehan Ahmed also smacked 48 runs off 25 balls to post 214 runs for the loss of four wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Trent Rockets, in the chase, tried hard. Apart from England's Bantom’s 32-ball knock of 67 runs, Ben Duckett smashed 49 runs off 25 balls while Finn Allen nailed 43 runs in 17 balls. Despite that, they fell short of the chase by 10 runs.
