The Pakistan wicket-keeper, Mohammad Rizwan, has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court against the cybercrime agency of Pakistan after his meeting at the Lahore office of the agency last week. He was summoned by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) along with the left-handed opening batter, Imam-Ul-Haq

This came on the back of their 3-0 series defeat against England recently, where they lost all three Test matches in Headingley, Lord’s, and Edgbaston. The biggest reason for their fallout was their weak batting department, which failed to put up any fight apart from the second innings of the third Test match.

What did Rizwan do to land in legal trouble?

Both Imam and Rizwan were given a multi-page questionnaire to fill and return to the NCCIA. Even though Imam has filed the responses and sent them through an intermediary by the deadline on September 15, Rizwan was understood to have responded by raising questions about the investigation and the jurisdiction of the NCCIA.

Rizwan also filed a petition against the NCCIA in the Lahore High Court, citing a few specific allegations. The NCCIA’s questions have touched on the travel and the financial history of the players.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) didn’t name any players but reckoned that it had initiated an internal inquiry following the media reports concerning the conduct and discipline, which are being reviewed later.

Why was Rizwan summoned by the NCCIA in the first place?

Imam and Rizwan, who were in the group of the seven players being dropped from the squad and were later sent back home after the defeat of the tourists during the second fixture at Lord’s, were asked to make an appearance before the NCCIA last week.

Pakistan lost the second Test by 194 runs after losing the opening game by an innings and 103 runs. The seven players, along with Sarfaraz Ahmed and Umar Gul, were removed from the squad. The seven other players travelled to England, five of whom were uncapped at the international level.

Two of those called up, Mohammad Randhawa and Razaullah, made their respective debuts in England along with the wicket-keeper, Ghazi Ghori. They lost the game by eight wickets, though Razaullah picked up four wickets and smashed a fine knock of 81 runs during the second innings of the Edgbaston Test.
