Mohammad Rizwan accused of online betting — Lahore High Court rejects his petition

The Pakistan wicket-keeper, Mohammad Rizwan, has reportedly been found to be involved in online betting, just a few weeks after his mobile phone was taken away by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) of the country, after he was sent back home from England mid-series, after the end of the second red-ball encounter at Lord’s. 

Rizwan was removed from the Test squad after the Lord’s game and was summoned by the NCCIA to investigate the alleged match-fixing scandal. The reports have claimed that Rizwan’s involvement in those speculations has gained strength, leading the Lahore Court to reject the petition.

Rizwan found to be involved in Online Betting

Rizwan filed a petition against the cybercrime agency and decided to take the matter to the court. The reports expressed that Rizwan challenged the proceedings in a court, arguing that he had not been informed of any allegations against him and questioning the NCCIA’s authority to call him up.

It’s not clear whether Rizwan was actually part of the online betting. But in that case, it could result in consequences under the Anti-Corruption Code of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). It can even lead to a lifetime ban or the termination of his central contract. 

Rizwan might also face financial penalties, with criminal prosecution falling under the gambling category. There are strict cybercrime laws in Pakistan that could lead to criminal charges.

Rizwan managed only 61 runs across the four innings during their 2026 tour of England at an average of 15.25, while he also struggled during the two-match Test series against West Indies in the Caribbean, and he was sent back after the end of the Lord’s Test.

He was part of the seven players to be sent back home from the United Kingdom, including Salman Ali Agha, who led the national side during the opening Headingley Test match. They also sacked their red-ball head coach, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and the bowling coach, Umar Gul, from the third game at Edgbaston. 

In early September, Rizwan missed the President Trophy Grade-I due to the mandatory fitness tests, which stopped his chance to prove his worth with the bat. Now, the link with online betting has worsened the entire situation.
