Mohammed Shami's experience will be heavily missed by India: Ex-bowling coach Paras Mhambrey

The former India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey is a little bit skeptical about the bowling line-up of team India ahead of the five-match Test series against England (IND vs ENG), starting from June 20 (today) at Headingley, Leeds. Mhambrey said that India will heavily feel the absence of Mohammed Shami

The series against England is considered important for India from multiple aspects. One of those is the workload management of Jasprit Bumrah, probably the main weapon of Shubman Gill's arsenal. Gill and the Indian team management will have to utilize the pacer with extra caution so that the right-handed pacer can experience a swift cricket journey for a long time. For that, Mhambrey thanks, a right partner can reduce some pressure from Bumrah's shoulder. For that, Mhambrey can only think about Shami. Mohammad Siraj is there in the squad, but for the former bowling coach of Team India, he is not convincing enough to be the best partner for Jasprit.

"You've got to miss Shami's experience, right? Unfortunately, he is not there on the tour. Prior to this, you had three bowlers, experienced bowlers playing together. You have had Shami, Bumrah. You usually had Umesh in between. We played a lot of cricket together then. You don't have that option out here," Mhambrey told Hindustan Times.

"The second best from here is Mohammed Siraj. He needs to share the workload with Bumrah. The expectation shouldn't be that only Bumrah will go out and deliver for you. Siraj needs to shoulder that responsibility and do the job for the team because he is the most senior after Bumrah out here."

India have talents but lacking experience

Apart from Siraj, the India squad has pacers like Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, and Arshdeep Singh. But they do not have that vast experience like Shami has under his belt. Especially for Arshdeep, he can make his Test debut in the series.

"Someone like Prasidh has only a few Test matches under his belt, and the same is true for Akash Deep. Arsh (Arshdeep Singh) is on his debut. You don't want to have that pressure on them," Mhambrey added.
