Sri Lanka Cricket XI, declaring their second innings on 200 runs, set a target of 207 runs for the Indian side during their warm-up clash at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo. The visitors were asked to chase down the target in the final session as Mohammed Siraj got them over the winning line with three successive sixes. 

India, under the leadership of Shubman Gill, have been preparing for their upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, beginning on August 15 at the Galle International Cricket Stadium before the focus moves to the second clash in Colombo.

Heading into the last over of the game, the Indian side needed 16 runs to win the warm-up clash. That equation came down to that stage because Siraj clubbed the fifth delivery of the penultimate over for a massive six against Sonal Dinusha.

Sri Lanka’s Cricket XI side threw the ball to Keshara Nuwantha to bowl the final over of the encounter. The first delivery was pitched up as Siraj nailed it over the long-on for a massive six before copying the same shot for the same result.

The right-arm spinner kept making the same mistake of putting the ball in the arc of the batter, who drilled it to the deep mid-wicket region for another six. Despite winning the contest at that stage, Siraj decided to carry on and smashed a boundary on the fifth ball to the backward square leg and remained unbeaten on 32 runs off 15 balls.

India’s bowlers struggled in the first innings of the game as the hosts posted a massive score of 363 runs on the board for the loss of eight wickets. But India bounced back well with the bat and declared their innings with a six-run deficit. Devdutt Padikkal remained unbeaten on 142 runs while Ravindra Jadeja celebrated his fine knock of 63 runs.

In India’s second innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal, having been dismissed for a second-ball duck, retired hurt on 61 runs off 48 balls at a strike rate of 132.61, thanks to nine boundaries and a couple of sixes.

The blue brigade showed incredible aggression in the chase during the fourth innings and earned the win by six wickets.
