Monank Patel led USA announce squad for T20 World Cup 2026
Under the leadership of Monank Patel, the squad boasts a solid base of experience, with ten of the fifteen players having previously featured for the USA in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup

The USA mens cricket team has revealed their squad of 15 for the T20 World Cup 2026 which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. It is also the USA's second ever appearance at a T20 World Cup after a historic debut in 2024 where they gained huge exposure and establish credibility in international cricket. This announcement marks a transformation of American cricket with the team looking to build upon their previous progress and prove that making the Super 8s at the last World Cup was not just a fluke.
In 2024, the USA was front-page news around the globe after beating Pakistan in what turned out to be one of the greatest games of that tournament and was key in securing their place in the Super 8, which was a historic achievement for their country. In addition to actual results, the USA proved they could perform under pressure and compete against the very best teams in some of the best matches in T20 history. For this T20 World Cup 2026, the USA will be aiming to recreate their fearless style of play they exhibited in 2024 and make a real statement in world cricket.

Despite the challenges faced leading up to this World Cup, USA Cricket ultimately received their membership back, with no ramifications for any of its national team players. They were able to continue playing in global competitions despite the USA Cricket organization being suspended by the ICC on September 23 as a result of substantial breaches of membership criteria in both governance and financial administrative categories. The ICC clarified that players at the national team level could continue to participate in events without punitive action due to the administrative failures. In spite of the ongoing challenges of the organization with its financial turmoil and the filing of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy, steps were taken to ensure that the integrity and the continuity of the national team would be maintained.
USA Squad Selection, Preparation, and Group Challenge
In light of USA Cricket’s suspension, a new and transparent selection process was jointly developed with the ICC and the US Olympic & Paralympic Committee. All selectors submitted conflict-of-interest declarations, while a USOPC-appointed compliance officer oversaw proceedings to ensure fairness and merit-based decisions. This structured approach was aimed at safeguarding player confidence and ensuring that the best eligible talent was chosen to represent the nation on the biggest stage.
As part of their preparations, Team USA spent several weeks training in Sri Lanka, focusing on adapting to subcontinental conditions ahead of the tournament. Led by captain Monank Patel, the squad includes ten players from the 2024 World Cup, providing valuable experience and continuity. Drawn in Group A alongside India, Pakistan, Namibia, and the Netherlands, USA will open their campaign against defending champions India on February 7 in Mumbai, with debut hopefuls Shubham Ranjane, Mohammad Mohsin, and Shehan Jayasuriya adding fresh intrigue.
