Watch: ‘Money isn’t there…’- Adam Zampa drops bombshell on choosing PSL over IPL 2026
The leading wicket-taker for Australia in the T20Is, Adam Zampa, has revealed the reason for which he has selected the Pakistan Super League (PSL) over the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2026.

In a world where most players take their name off the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to be part of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Australia veteran leg spinner, Adam Zampa, has made exactly the opposite move to get snubbed out of the IPL and be part of the PSL for the 2026 season.
In the past, Corbin Bosch left his contracted franchise of the PSL to join the Mumbai Indians as an injury replacement. Meanwhile, in the ongoing edition, Zimbabwe’s lanky pacer, Blessing Muzarabani, also made the same choice of going to the IPL instead of the PSL when the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) called him as a replacement.
Adam Zampa reveals reasons to choose PSL over IPL
The leading wicket-taker of the Australia side in T20Is pulled out of the mini-auction of the IPL 2026 after getting released by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He feels that he wasn’t rewarded the expected amount for his skill set by the franchise and initially decided to take a break from the game before the PSL knocked on the door.

“To be brutally honest, for someone with my skill set, the money just isn’t there compared to what’s available for other skill sets. Considering the amount of time the IPL requires, it didn’t seem like a reasonable choice for me to keep playing.” Zampa said on the ARY podcast.
Zampa isn’t wrong in his assessment of the IPL sides going heavy on the all-rounders like Cameron Green for INR 25.20 crore, while he was roped for only INR 2.4 crore by the SRH side.

Adam Zampa’s performance in IPL & PSL
Zampa has overall 31 wickets in 22 innings of the IPL at an average of 21.03 and an economy rate of 8.37, including his best figures of 6/19 for the Rising Pune Super Giants in 2016, when he claimed 12 wickets in just five innings.
However, in 2025, the Victoria spinner picked up only two wickets at 47 and an economy rate of 11.75. Meanwhile, for the Karachi Kings, Zampa has three wickets in two innings at an economy rate of just 4.62 with one ‘Player of the Match’ award.
