Former India and Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni is one of the legendary captains in the history of cricket. While he led India to 3 ICC trophies, he led CSK in the record 5 IPL titles as well.

Although, ahead of the IPL 2024, he passed the CSK captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad, leaving behind a legacy to be remembered for a long time as well. However, Dhoni led CSK in 14 of the 16 IPL seasons successfully. Apart from his captaincy skills, his batting and skill behind the stumps played an important role in CSK’s success as well.

Meanwhile, in an event hosted by Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar also shared what is special about MS Dhoni. He said, “That’s why they say, ‘Thala for a reason’.”

“See, there are players from different countries and different cities, you have to bring them together with a singular aim of lifting the IPL trophy. ‘In six weeks, we have to win this tournament’. For that, you might have some great players, and you are forced to keep them out due to team combination. But you don’t let them feel that they’re useless; you keep them as an integral part of the team. MSD has these abilities; that’s why he’s Thala for a reason,” concluded Sunil Gavaskar.

On the other hand, Star Sports has recently released the data for the highest decibel levels at IPL venues this season, with two of MS Dhoni’s moments in the top three as well. However, Dhoni’s entry at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai during the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru resulted in a sound level of 130 decibels and topped the chart. Notably, this was the first time fans saw MS Dhoni on the ground after handing over the captaincy reins to young Ruturaj Gaikwad.
