On This Day: Birthday of Manish Pandey who scored IPL century at the age of 19 for RCB

September 10, 1989, is the birthday of star Indian batter Manish Pandey, who was considered as one of the most talented batters to grace the Indian Premier League (IPL) by scoring a thunderous century at the age of only 19 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Hailing from Nainital, Pandey did supremely well in various age group matches and domestic games. He developed himself as an aggressive middle-order batsman before receiving his maiden India call-up. In July 2015, Pandey made his international debut in Harare, six years after his infamous IPL century. For India, the right-handed batter played 29 One Day International matches and 39 T20I matches. He scored a century for India in a 50-over match against Australia in Sydney.

Pandey, in his debut ODI game, amassed 71 runs against Zimbabwe. Despite multiple impactful innings for Men in Blue, Pandey is mostly remembered for his ton for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) when he was only 19. During a match against Deccan Chargers in IPL 2009, Pandey, as an opener, played an unbeaten 114-run knock off 73 deliveries powered by 10 boundaries and 4 over boundaries. RCB won the match. Deccan Chargers closed to chase down the target of 171 in 20 overs but halted at 158 for 6.

He's still going well

Pandey's international could not touch the heights as it could be. Though, to date, he remains a valuable cricketer in domestic tournaments. 

At the age of 35, he played high-profile matches for various leagues as well. In IPL 2025, Manish Pandey participated in 3 matches with Kolkata Knight Riders to score a total of 92 runs. In the cash-rich league, the batter played for 7 different teams. According to his batting average, his best IPL season was in 2009. In 5 matches and 4 innings, he gathered a total of 168 runs at an average of 84.00 with the help from the century.
