Former England players, including Michael Vaughan, Phil Tufnel, and David Lloyd, have reacted to the chaos in the Pakistan side during the three-match Test series against England. The visitors lost the first two Tests embarrassingly after the PCB made a major decision. 

The Pakistan board decided to recall seven players, including Imam Ul Haq, Salman Ali Agha, and Mohammad Rizwan, besides sacking their Test coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and their bowling coach Umar Gul, appointing Mike Hesson in charge on an interim basis.

Tufnell made light of the fact but was surprised by the decision of the Pakistan side to remove their players while the tour was still ongoing. He pointed out that the King would walk up to everyone and ask whether they had been going home.

“But to send them home — to actually send them home — I think it’s terrible. It’s a disgrace for the players. I mean, they’ve now got to get on a plane and go back to the country. I’ve had all sorts. I’ve been sent to the moon in a rocket by the Sun, and, you know, ‘big ears’ and ‘bunny teeth’ and everything.” Tufnell expressed this on the Stick to Cricket podcast.

“We always used to get that. I bet old Charlie walked down there and said, ‘Are you the one who’s going home? What have you done wrong?” He addressed.

Vaughan, the former captain, shed light on how, while he has seen the players expelled from the tours for disciplinary issues, the PCB sent back players for playing badly. He also reckoned that Pakistan had seen 12 coaches since 2022.

“The thing is, usually you see one or two leave a tour because they’ve done something wrong in a bar or something. These have been sent home for just plain average cricket. Since Saqlain Mushtaq lost his job as head coach in 2023, Pakistan has made 12 changes to the men’s Test-match head coach.” Vaughan stated.

Lloyd also made fun of the entire situation as the week summed up the real situation with the PCB currently.

“They got an audience with King Charles, didn’t they? They’re all lined up, and you’re being sent home. But just before you go, can you just go and meet the King?” Lloyd concluded.

The Pakistan players met with King Charles III at Clarence House, which took place amid the turmoil of the side, as reports revealed that the dropped players were also requested to attend the meeting.

Despite the backdrop of the heavy Test defeats and the outside protests, the interaction saw words of encouragement. King walked up to every single player of the Pakistan side.

Under the leadership of Babar Azam, the tourists also gifted a bat with the signatures of all the players to the King of England ahead of the third game at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
